Bryan Ferry Bliss

    ~ Avalon ~
I was first introduced to Roxy Music by an old boy friend John C. who dressed in funky suits, wore eye liner, drove a scooter and lived with a few of the guys from the band Social Distortion. In 1982 when Avalon was released I had just moved to LA and Avalon was my sound track for that year. I always said moving up to LA from the beach town I grew up in was like going from Black and White film to Technicolor. I played that album over and over. It was so sophisticated and grown up... like I wanted to be.

I first saw Roxy Music in concert in 1983. I still remember what I was wearing and my crazy hairstyle (photo’s not included). That concert stayed with me for a long time and now I know why.

Last Saturday night I saw Bryan Ferry  at the Greek Theater. The crowd was full of stylish men and women, most of them my contemporaries. The always suit-and-tied BF transported me into one of his stylish videos thanks to the huge video screen with changing imagery behind his two go-go/vogueing dancers. His wasted-by-love persona reeled me in and held me captive.

Still riding high from the concert, I attended the opening reception party for Bryan Ferry's photographic works at the Michael Kohn Gallery Thursday night.  On display were numerous images from his latest musical endeavor, the album, Olympia where he used Kate Moss as his model. But what was really interesting to me was revisiting the photos of old album covers Country Life, Siren, Flesh and Blood and Avalon.

~Two Beautiful Women ~
The man himself was there looking dashing in a navy blue English tailored suit. The BF fashionistas were all out in force. As I looked around the room I admired all the men that were dressed in their finery and thought how nice it was to see men in LA dressed.

The two men next to me in front of the Avalon photo were talking about how many women they had seduced to that album. I walked away laughing to myself thinking the only man I wanted seducing me to Avalon was the man himself... Bryan Ferry.
